Often people seeking courage in their lives, miss the most important aspect, that is to simply follow your truth. When you are on the path of truth, much courage is developed as pressures and distractions manifest to lead us on other paths.
Those on the path of truth will build inner strength that provides the courage to meet obstacles on their path. Truth and Courage are closely related and can often be one. Where you find one, you will always find the other. Courage borne of truth is the highest form of courage.
Those who cannot face the truth will often seek the easy path of lies. It is here we see the rise in corruption in our society where self interests take precedence over social and communal values.
The truth is not always pleasant, and can often challenge how we view the world. The adage "The truth will set you free" presupposes that you have been living a lie, and for many of us, this is right. By following our path of truth, we challenge the view of life we have previously accepted, and accept new visions of the world.
When we have accepted our truth, we have the courage to accept that others have their own truth also and that they can exist side-by-side without judgment. In any religious group, Eg: Bhagavad Gita study, the same passage will contain a different truth for each person. There is no right or wrong here, just different truths.
When we accept another persons truth as our own, we are without the courage to go forward on our path and we cease to grow. We live a lie, and need to create more lies, or myths to support it. This painful process traps us into an ever increasing spiral of lies that manifest themselves in our daily lives and relationships. How can we show truth to another, if we have none to give.
Courage and truth are becoming rarities and so the corruption in social values continues. Facing the challenges of truth builds the courage needed to face the next challenge. The courage to face these challenges does not come in a day, and is not a destination. New truths will come to us each step on the path. Truths we thought were true yesterday, will suddenly be replaced by a deeper understanding and new truth as our courage builds.
The path to truth and courage is long and challenging. People often think the path is long and the destination unreachable. The truth does not care where on the path you are, only that you are on it. The ancient Chinese proverb "The longest journey begins with the first step" is quite apt in this case. Each step brings you closer to your truth, and gives the courage to take the next step.
