The Sacred Masculine

A good deal of issues arise from men who have lost sight of their mission. They have become good at playing the bread winner, but this definition of manhood lacks fulfillment, and men yearn to find their true path. By embracing the Sacred Masculine, men can take back the power they have given away so readily and fulfill the missions they have lost sight of. But what is the Sacred Masculine? As the womens movement gained momentum men were told to be more sensitive and embrace their feminine side. Then there was the feminist backlash, when men realised the had given away their manhood. This backlash gave rise to the aggressive warrior archetypes. What was lacking in both of the above versions of manhood was balance. The Sacred Masculine embraces both the Sacred Feminine, and the Warrior. When looking at the Sacred Feminine, one need look no further than the earlier article on this site to gather more information. But what of the warrior? Who is he? What does he stand against, and more importantly, what does he stand FOR. The Webster dictionary defines warrior as “a man engaged or experienced in warfare”. This definition is quite readily accepted by western cultures. In chivalrous times, the word warrior was a man who protected women, children and his community and had a strict code of ethics to guide him. As time progressed, and men aggressively chased power, the word warrior became synonymous with soldier. A warrior was now a man who sought to destroy and dominate to prove himself to other men. Whilst the soldier is one aspect of the warrior, there is much omitted and does not do justice to men. The spiritual warrior is the Sacred Masculine in action. Men accepting the Sacred Masculine into their lives lead by example. These are the men who hold themselves above others by teaching, by example, the responsibility, duty and honour of manhood. Often men will seek a sense of self and importance in unhealthy ways, because they are easier to attain than the virtuous path. When a man embraces the Sacred Masculine he becomes the teacher and mentor. No longer does he need to best all men who come before him, rather help and to serve those on a similar path. No longer does he need to bed every woman who greets him, rather embrace and honour the Sacred Feminine in the woman he has chosen. No longer does he need to be aggressive, rather to show his vulnerabilities so he may access his true strength as a protector. The man who embraces the Sacred Masculine within knows the qualities of the warrior. Strength, Truth, Courage, Compassion When the warrior puts these Sacred Masculine traits into action and can conquer his own demons, then his mission will become clear and those about him will be liberated by his presence alone.
