Sham No Mitrah Sham (or Sham No Varunah) is a Shanti Mantra from the Taittiriya Upanishad, which belongs to the Krishna Yajurveda. As a Vedic text, it is considered apauruṣeya (of divine origin) rather than being written by a specific human author, and it is frequently recited to remove obstacles and invoke peace.
Oṃ, may Mitra (the Solar deity) be good to us, may Varuṇa (the God of cosmic law) be good to us. May Aryamā (the God of nobility) be good to us, may Indra (the king of Gods) and Bṛhaspati (the guru of Gods) be good to us. May Vishnu, who strides widely, be good to us. Salutations to Brahman. Salutations to Vāyu (the Wind God). You are the direct Brahman; I shall declare you to be the direct Brahman. I shall speak what is right; I shall speak what is true. May that protect me, and may that protect the speaker. Protect me, protect the speaker. Oṃ, peace, peace, peace.
