O Śrīvidyā, who dwells on the left side of Śiva, worshipped by Śrī Rājarāja, O embodiment of the lineage of great gurus beginning with Śrīnātha, seated on the wish-fulfilling gem throne, Whose lotus feet are adored by Sarasvatī and Pārvatī, O Śāmbhavī, O auspicious Śivā, O daughter of the king Malayadhvaja, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. O One established in the chakras, steady and beyond restlessness, O Lord of all moving and unmoving worlds, worshipped by all, Granter of boons to the distressed, giver of fearlessness to those who bow, full-bosomed and majestic, O knowledge itself, known through the Vedas and sacred arts, shining like lightning in form, O Mother, whose heart is softened by the nectar of fullness, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. Adorned with crown, armlets, jewels, and earrings, bearing bow and arrows, With breasts like golden pots, shining with long garlands, With tinkling anklets and gem-studded sacred sandals, O Garuḍa who devours the serpent of my poverty, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. Whose glory is sung by Brahmā, Śiva, and Viṣṇu, seated upon the sacred seat beyond death, Holding noose, goad, bow, and arrows, adorned with the crescent moon, With playful, deer-like eyes, shining like millions of rising suns, Worshipped through sacred gestures, O daughter of the sage, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. Praised by celestial musicians, gods, yakṣas, and serpents, embraced by the bearer of Gaṅgā (Śiva), Seated as Gāyatrī upon Garuḍa, lotus-born and beautifully dark in hue, Brighter than countless sparks of fire that burn away evil, Worshipped through mantras, O daughter of the sage, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. Essence of sound, praised by Nārada and Tumburu, the inner essence beyond sound, Eternal, like a blue creeper, incomparable, slender like a grain stalk, Beloved, embodiment of Kāma’s subtle power, dwelling in Kadamba groves, seated on Kāmeśvara’s lap, O my knowledge, wish-fulfilling vine of my desires, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. With half-closed eyes absorbed in the music of the vīṇā, hair loosened and flowing, With lips red like betel leaves, adorned with earrings and garlands, Dark-hued, decorated with the crescent moon, with musk upon the forehead, Full and radiant face filled with all arts, protect me, O Mīnākṣī. Embodiment of sound-Brahman, pervading all that moves and does not move, radiant light and speech itself, Full of eternal bliss, pure, essence of truth and consciousness, Beyond all principles, supreme beyond the supreme, both illusion and auspiciousness, Filled with all sovereignty, one with Sadāśiva — protect me, O Mīnākṣī. Thus ends the Mīnākṣī Stotram, composed by the revered Śaṅkarācārya, disciple of Govinda Bhagavatpāda, the supreme renunciate teacher.
