This one thousand names is found in the Brahmanda Purana in the section dealing with the conversation between Sage Hayagriva and Sage Agastya. It was revealed by the eight Vak Devis (goddesses of speech) to Sage Agastya after Goddess Lalitha's victory over the demon Bhandasura She is Earth, daughter of the mountain, blessed, righteous, and promoter of dharma. Transcending world, qualities, and all else, She is the very essence of peace. Resplendent like the bandhūka flower, She is ever young and playful. Bestower of auspiciousness and joy, richly adorned, and pleasing in appearance. Delighted by worship from married women, She is radiant and pure-minded. Pleased by offerings to the Bindu, She is the primal mother, Tripurāmbikā. Worshipped with the ten Mudrās, She controls the glory of Tripurā. The gesture and path of wisdom, She is both knowledge and the known. She is the Yoni Mudrā, goddess of the three divisions, mother of the three Guṇas, residing in the triangle. Pure, with wondrous conduct, She grants all desired fruits. Mastered through intense practice, transcending the six paths, She is the embodiment of unconditional compassion and the light that dispels the darkness of ignorance. She is known and accessible even to the youngest — from infants to cowherd boys. Her command is supreme and cannot be transgressed by anyone. She resides in the majestic Śrīcakra and is revered as Śrīmat Tripurasundarī, the auspicious and beautiful goddess of the three cities. The auspicious Shiva and Shiva-Shakti united as one form, Lalita Ambika. Thus the thousand names of the Goddess Shri Lalita were sung.
