śrī rāma rāma rāmeti rame rāme manorame sahasranāma tat tulyaṃ rāmanāma varānane
Found in the Vishnu Sahasranāmam, this powerful mantra glorifies the name of Rāma. It conveys that delighting in chanting 'Rāma, Rāma, Rāma' equals the spiritual potency as chanting the entire Vishnu Sahasranāma, the thousand names of Lord Vishnu. The word "Rāma" itself comes from the root "rām" meaning to play, revel, and be joyful. "Ramante yasmin iti rāmaḥ" - He in whom all beings find joy and delight, that is Rāma. The name isn't just a label but embodies the essence of joy and divine bliss. For a devotee, Rāma's name holds transformative power. When chanted with love, it becomes a boat to cross life's turbulent waters - this is why it's called the "tāraka mantra." Just as a boat carries us safely across dangerous waters, the name carries us through life's challenges. Saints like Tulsidas experienced that merely speaking the name "Rāma" cleanses the heart of all impurities, much like the sun naturally dispels darkness. This purification isn't a struggle - it happens effortlessly through loving repetition. We see this in Sri Hanuman, who remained absorbed in Rāma's name constantly. His devotion shows us that the name itself contains Rāma's full presence. By simply repeating the name "Rāma" one can attain peace, spiritual fulfilment, and a profound sense of connection with the divine. Rather than complex rituals or philosophical study, the name itself offers a direct path to the divine, especially potent in this Kali Yuga (the current age). Translation: Chanting 'Sri Rama, Rama, Rama,' captivates the mind, filling it with delight and devotion. O beautiful-faced one, the single name 'Rama' is equivalent to the thousand names (sahasranāma) of Lord Vishnu.
